Proactive alerting for SAP Integration Suite with SAP Cloud ALM

Disruptions are part of everyday life in every IT landscape. Especially in the environment of integration platforms, errors regularly occur in message processing or interface processes.

With the imminent replacement of SAP Solution Manager and SAP Process Orchestration by 2027, there is an additional need for action for companies that want to future-proof their integration landscapes.

Without a clear incident management strategy and notifications, operational risks can quickly arise.

Starting situation

In many companies, fault information from monitoring is not forwarded in a way that is appropriate for the target group. Errors or disruptions within the integration landscape are therefore often only detected late.

Especially in the case of message processing in the Integration Suite, this can lead to relevant information reaching IT teams or business departments too late or being provided without sufficient context.

The result is a company where:

  • Reaction times depend heavily on individuals
  • Escalations are often done manually
  • Coordination effort in the event of an incident increases

This results in a reactive operating model where problems are not detected until business processes are already compromised.

Approach

SAP Cloud ALM provides a modern platform that provides a central event and notification concept for SAP landscapes.

SAP Cloud ALM enables automated and role-based notifications in the event of errors and disruptions. Target groups can be informed contextually and automatically, so that the right people can react at the right time.

Notifications can be integrated with existing collaboration and IT service management tools, such as:

  • Microsoft Teams
  • Jira
  • ServiceNow
  • E-mail

In addition, when using corresponding SAP Cloud Services (Enterprise Support, Product Support for Large Enterprises, SAP Cloud Subscription Contract with Enterprise Support (Cloud Edition), there are no additional license costs for SAP Cloud ALM.

Steps of implementation

The structured use of SAP Cloud ALM supports companies in systematically developing their monitoring and notification processes.

Providing clarity

First, an analysis of the existing monitoring processes within the integration landscape is carried out. It examines which events and error messages occur and which target groups need to be informed about them.

This analysis creates transparency about:

  • critical integration processes
  • Relevant fault events
  • Existing communication channels in the event of an incident

Enabling innovation

On the basis of this analysis, a modern alerting concept is defined. This includes automated notifications, role-based responsibilities and structured escalation paths.

The integration of SAP Cloud ALM with existing tools enables flexible and modern communication in the event of disruptions, so that information can be distributed quickly and in a targeted manner.

Accelerate proof of concept

In the next step, a proof of concept (PoC) is implemented, in which the defined alerting concept is tested in selected integration scenarios.

It examines how faults within the SAP Integration Suite can be detected and automatically forwarded to the responsible target groups via SAP Cloud ALM.

The PoC makes it possible to test and optimize notification rules, escalation mechanisms and integrations with existing tools – such as Microsoft Teams or Jira – under realistic conditions before the concept is rolled out company-wide.

Results and Benefits

The result is a structured and automated notification system for integration processes, which is being implemented as part of the InnovateSAP initiative. By using SAP Cloud ALM , companies gain a central platform for monitoring, event management, and notifications in modern SAP integration landscapes.

The added value is evident on several levels.

Operational

  • Faster response times in the event of errors
  • Fewer manual escalations
  • Clear responsibilities in incident management

Professional

  • Reduced process interruptions
  • Transparent communication in the event of disruptions

Management

  • Clear view of critical incidents
  • Structured escalation processes
  • Better controllability of IT operations

As part of InnovateSAP , this approach helps companies evolve their IT operations from a reactive “fire mode” to a proactive and controllable operating model , while preparing your integration landscape for future needs.
